Ostrów Tumski will once again be filled with the magic of sound thanks to the Johannes Brahms Organ and Chamber Music Festival “Non Sola Scripta”. Strefa Kultury Wrocław and prof. dr hab. Andrzej Chorosiński invite you to the Church of the Holy Cross for another edition of this extraordinary musical event, every Sunday from July 6th to August 31st.
„Non Sola Scripta” is a festival with over 30 years of tradition, known for its unique formula combining classical organ compositions with improvisation. It is an event with a unique character on a national scale, the premise of which is an experiment resulting from the meeting of the best organists with virtuosos of other instruments and top-class vocalists in an unusual line-up, creating a new kind of energy together. The content of the musical evenings includes not only what we read from the score, but also improvisation in various configurations and forms. This is evidenced by the Latin title, which freely translates to “not only what is written”.
During this year’s edition, the artists will once again present the works of classical and contemporary composers to the audience. The concerts take place in one of the most beautiful and usually inaccessible places in Wrocław – the Gothic Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross and St. Bartholomew on Ostrów Tumski.
The creator and artistic director of the festival is prof. dr hab. Andrzej Chorosiński – an outstanding organist, composer and pedagogue, who has held this position continuously since the beginning of the festival. He has performed in almost all European countries, as well as in Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia, South Korea and Japan. The artist has been honored with many decorations and awards, including the “Meritorious Activist of Culture” badge, the Gold Cross of Merit, and the “Ecclesiae Populoque Servitium Praestanti” Medal. In 2019, he celebrated his 50th anniversary of concert activity.
In previous editions of the festival, performers included Anna Maria Jopek, Halina Frąckowiak, Włodek Pawlik, Giampaolo di Rosa, Paweł Gusnar, and Giulio Mercati, among others. The audience had the opportunity to hear not only singing and recitations, but also the sounds of the lute, violin, trumpet, cello, accordion, and saxophone. Thanks to its over thirty years of history, “Non Sola Scripta” is one of the oldest festivals in Poland.
