Summer Sundays in Wrocław will once again be filled with improvised music as part of the Johannes Brahms Organ and Chamber Music Festival “Non Sola Scripta”. Strefa Kultury Wrocław and the artistic director of the festival, prof. dr hab. Andrzej Chorosiński, invite you to concerts in the Church of the Holy Cross on Ostrów Tumski.
For the thirty-second time, “Non Sola Scripta” will grace Ostrów Tumski – the oldest, historic part of the city. It is there, from July 6th to August 31st, that organ and chamber music will resound as part of a series of nine Sunday concerts. This year’s edition will ensure variety both in the selection of the artistic program by the performers and in terms of their origin, the form of presentation of the repertoire, and the instruments on which they will play. It will be a unique meeting with the rich tradition of European music performed by young talents and virtuosos of international stages.
The artists will present classical and contemporary compositions in unconventional and extraordinary arrangements. The program will include works by J. Brahms, F. Chopin, J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, as well as “Melancholie” by W. Kilar and music from the film “The Mission” by E. Morricone. The audience will have the opportunity to experience unique fusions in which improvisations by renowned organists will meet with masters of other instruments and outstanding vocalists.
– Throughout the summer, on Sundays in July and August, the concerts of the Johannes Brahms Organ and Chamber Music Festival ‘Non Sola Scripta’ will fill – in accordance with the festival’s unique formula – solo pieces of the “king of instruments” along with vocal, choral, chamber music, on many instruments with the accompaniment of organs in improvised arrangements. This year’s festival is a musical journey through Europe, through three centuries of music history, with the participation of artists playing instruments for the first time present in the festival program – oboe, clarinet, trombone, baroque violin. As the Artistic Director of the festival, I try to present diverse and rich program proposals. This year’s Non Sola Scripta festival will feature both debuting young talents and virtuosos who have enjoyed international recognition for many years. The concerts of the ‘Non Sola Scripta’ festival constitute a musical whole, and will therefore be – a Symphony in nine parts. It is therefore worth listening to it in its entirety, starting from Sunday, July 6th, where the Einbecker Kantorei choir will perform and Johannes Brahms’ Academic Overture, Doctor h.c. of the University of Wrocław, the Patron of the Festival, will be heard – announces Artistic Director prof. dr hab. For musical meetings with “Non Sola Scripta” the organizers invariably invite you to the Gothic Collegiate Church of the Holy Cross and St. Bartholomew on Ostrów Tumski, which is usually inaccessible to visitors.
